Why Leading Golf Clubs Are Making GLFR Their Official Club App

The Shift Towards Digital Club Management

Golf clubs worldwide are embracing digital tools to improve member engagement and streamline operations. One of the most significant trends in recent years is the adoption of club apps, offering members a seamless experience from course navigation to club communication.

Two leading Icelandic clubs—Golfklúbbur Mosfellsbæjar and Golfklúbbur Kópavogs og Garðabæjar (GKG) —are among those taking the leap, fully integrating GLFR as their official club app. Their experiences highlight why a digital-first approach is the future of golf club management.

A Club App That Goes Beyond the Course

For Golfklúbbur Mosfellsbæjar, GLFR has been a trusted part of their club since 2019, initially used as a digital course guide and GPS tool. But this season, they’re taking it to the next level by making GLFR their official club app.

“Starting this season, we will use GLFR to keep our members updated on everything happening at the club. Our greenkeeper will share daily Course Status updates directly in the app, and we will use the Club App’s News Feed to keep members informed about club activities,” says Agust Jensson, Golf Manager at Golfklúbbur Mosfellsbæjar.

The club is also embracing GLFR’s Push Notification system, ensuring that members receive important updates instantly—whether it’s club events, tournament news, or weather alerts. Plus, thanks to social media and website integration, any updates posted in the app automatically appear on the club’s homepage and Facebook feed, saving valuable time for club staff.

But it doesn’t stop there. GM is also utilizing GLFR Communities, a feature that allows different member groups—such as men’s, women’s, and senior sections—to communicate directly within the app.

“Many of these groups currently use Facebook, but we want to offer this as a free and dedicated space for our members within our own club app.”

This shift reflects a growing trend: golf clubs are looking to move away from scattered, third-party platforms and centralize communication within their own ecosystem.

An All-in-One Golf Experience for Members and Guests

Meanwhile, at GKG, GLFR has become much more than just a Club App—it’s an essential part of the golfing experience itself.

“At GKG, we use GLFR as our all-in-one golf app, providing both members and guests with everything they need to enhance their experience,” explains Ulfar Jonsson, Service Manager at GKG.

Beyond the GPS Course Guide and Digital Scorecards, one feature stands out as a game-changer: Live Pin Positions.

“This feature shows them the exact location of the flag on the green, giving them a truly WOW experience as it allows for more accurate and exciting play.”

With GLFR’s seamless integration with Golf.IS, members can log in, track their handicaps, and submit scores—all in one place. No need for multiple apps or manual processes.

The Future of Club Technology

Both GM and GKG show how golf clubs can leverage technology to offer a better experience for their members while streamlining club management. From daily updates to Live Pin Positions, GLFR is proving to be more than just another golf app—it’s becoming the digital heart of the club.

As more clubs seek better ways to engage members, simplify operations, and provide a professional digital experience, the shift towards dedicated club apps like GLFR is only just beginning.
